This was probably the first year I looked at my check in videos (at least at the end of prep) and actually let myself feel pride and excitement for what I was doing in the midst of it all. It’s difficult to balance being hard enough on yourself to keep getting better, while not being too hard on yourself to crush your self worth. I used to live under this constant pressure, at times I still do, and I even thought I needed to live like this to be my best. But my 10 years of experience competing has allowed me to better separate (not fully, but better) my self worth from my success as a bodybuilder. Not only did this not decrease my drive to be better, but it allowed me to enjoy the journey a lot more. It allowed me to live in a place of excitement and joy rather than fear and pressure and in turn I had more drive than ever. I still wouldn’t change my mindset if I could go back in time, because it was what I needed to push me forward at the time. The beautiful thing about life is how it’s ever changing, what drives us now may not be what drives us in the future. Being a “champ” over and over again in any aspect of life is being able to know yourself well enough to constantly evolve not just your actions, but your self as a whole.
This was my first time in 8 years doing more than 1 show in a year and getting a fun little rebound post show (I typically stop training for a while after the O to rest my body). Can’t lie the pumps were funnn, but getting back on diet was not🙃

Anyone remember the Challenge Round at the @mrolympiallc like 20 years ago?? If you’re a fan of early 2000’s bodybuilding do yourself a favor and look it up on YouTube. Competitors got to pick an opponent and 1 pose they felt they could beat them at and the winner of each round got to stay center stage and pick another opponent. Mel and Iain showed me this not that long ago, I thought it was pretty cool. I’m sure it would take up a lot of time, but definitely be fun to watch. Who’d want to see this concept come back???
