A TABI FILM: A film directed by Yuri Ancarani offering an in-depth look at the craftmanship of the Maison Margiela Tabi, introduced in 1989 at our first show. The film traces the journey of a pair of Tabi from concept to final assembly. In an artisanal process, every stage is carried out by hand. Preparing the base takes up to four hours, followed by the mould: cut from a block of wood, then stitching, and assembly. The practice gathers 11 artisans, each with their specific expertise, and each shoe is finished with a single white stitch. A Tabi film documents technique and craft, capturing the shoe that endures over time. Footage from the archive depicts the heritage associated with the form that sets it apart. A video by Yuri Ancarani Voice of Ermanna Montanari Produced by ILCAPO

“You can’t make certain fabrics do what you want it do. It will tell you how it wants to be draped or cut. You have to listen.” Following on from System Stories’ third episode of ‘In Conversation’ featuring John Galliano, Creative Director of Maison Margiela and Anders Christian Madsen, journalist and collaborator of Margiela, System invited leading European schools – L’Institut Français de la Mode in Paris, La Cambre Modes in Brussels, Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and of course Galliano’s alma mater Central Saint Martins in London – to select eight MA fashion design students to Maison Margiela’s HQ in Paris for a masterclass in creativity. The students were invited to ask Galliano questions prompting a discussion about his creative process, how to make a commercial product while staying true to your vision and the importance of building a team that you can trust. They also had the opportunity to show Galliano inspirational objects of their choosing. The group were also joined by Margiela house muses Valentine Charrasse and Thomas Riguelle, who work closely with Galliano on shaping their movement and character narrative that contributed to the Artisanal show in January. Together, a dialogue about unfettered creativity unfolded. Watch John Galliano: In conversation part 2 now at the link in bio. Maison Margiela Artisanal 2024 Collection by @JGalliano The collection’s synthesis between the painterly process and the ritual of dressing ignites a study of the muse-like relationship formed between artists and their anatomical lay dolls. It is conveyed in doll-like accents, in the stripe- tease of shirting dresses, and in tweed skirt-suits.
