You think we're the same, the same

(jazz music)

To be human is to be two things at once. A paradox. You exist and you do not. As you are living, you are dying, and as you reach for the new, you are saying goodbye to the old, and as you struggle to define yourself so you can say, "I know who I am," you're already letting her go.

A rose cannot bloom on a battlefield. A heart cannot open in a broken world. They ask us why women have grown thorns, and we answer that after generations of being plucked, we evolved in order to survive. The first time I knew I could trust him was when he didn't pluck me, only showered me, not drowning me.
