Diagnostic Mock-Up (“Maquette Diagnostique”) Also called an esthetic prototype or try-in smile, the diagnostic mock-up is a direct intraoral reproduction of the planned esthetic outcome. It allows the patient to “test-drive” the proposed design for comfort, function, and appearance before tooth preparation. Fabrication: The simplest and most efficient method uses a dentin-shade PMMA resin (e.g., New Outline Dentin A1 or AB, Anaxdent) molded over unprepared teeth with a silicone index made from the wax-up. Bis-acryl materials can be used but are more brittle, sticky, and difficult to modify. Retention may be achieved through light enamel etching, shrinkage fit, or interdental locking. Silicone Index: An accurate, firm silicone index is made by pressing the material tightly onto the model using a dual-layer technique. A light reduction of the gingival margin on the model improves cervical adaptation. Optimal stiffness ensures easy handling and minimal excess, which can be peeled away. Evaluation and Adjustment: The patient wears the mock-up for several days or weeks to assess esthetics, phonetics, and function. Adjustments can then be made directly in the mouth. The final, edited version is scanned or impressed and sent to the laboratory as a blueprint for veneer fabrication. Purpose: Beyond esthetic preview, the mock-up serves as a preparation guide, helping determine the ideal tooth reduction and margin placement.

Those veneers were printed as a test in 9 minutes only with Midas by Sprintray using Crown HT 60% filled materials and could be used as long-term provisionals in complex cases.
