We hear so many guys talking about the grind. Leveling up their income. Climate the corporate ladder. Idolizing the concept of ambition. But should we even be striving for ambition? Aquinas says that Ambition “signifies inordinate love of honor.” We want the money, the status, the fame, the HONOR above our desire for excellence, for virtue, for HOLINESS. So the answer is…. No. The properly ordered pursuit of excellence we ought to strive to cultivate is the virtue of magnanimity. The striving for excellence in all things, especially GREAT THINGS. Yes, be great at what you do. Level up your skills. Seek excellence at work. But not at the EXPENSE of what is higher. Service to your family and to GOD. Ascend Through Virtue

So many guys I work with come to me feeling stuck. They want to grow. They want to lead. They want to be the man that God is calling them to be. But they are fighting this battle blind. What battle you might ask. The Battle Within. “For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.” (Romans 7:15) If we want to win this battle, the first thing we need to do is understand this battle so that then we can adequately train for this battle. Because if you don’t, then you’re a soldier unfit for battle. Ill-prepared to fight. It’s time for men to start to do the work that really matters. The interior work. So that we can serve, protect and defend as we ought to.
